VANDERSTAR ENGINEERING & ASSOCIATES was retained on a sub-contract to be the project manager for the design and deployment of an off-grid broadband network to provide service to Nemiah Valley in the South Central Cariboo area of British Columbia Canada. The network was linked to the main Internet through both a satellite link and terrestial link via a DMZ router that was located at the central school tower. Special off-grid structures were constructed to serve as distribution sites to provide service to the Xeni Gwet'in First Nations Community and surrounding rural residents. As can be seen from the photograph taken from the Bald Mountain Site below, during construction a forest fire was burning at the base of the Coast Mountains on the east side of Chilco Lake.
